PIRE Participants NeededDear Students, We are very pleased to announce an exciting international research and career development opportunity that is open to all FIU SCIS and FAU CSE students. FIU and FAU have been awarded a highly competitive 5-year, $2.3 million, grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Partnership for International Research and Education (PIRE) program . This grant is dedicated to establish a prestigious international research program, focusing on using Internet-enabled computing technology to solve challenging societal problems and on training our students to be global-oriented IT leaders for industry and academia. We have established a group of first class international partners, which includes top universities in Mexico, Argentina, Spain and China, the IBM Research Labs and R&D facilities in China, India, Japan and France, as well as the Barcelona Supercomputing Center in Spain, the largest supercomputing center and R&D facility in Europe. With this grant, we will be sending a number of our top undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral students on ALL EXPENSE PAID trips to the sites of our international partners. You will experience collaborative research and training as part of our international R&D team under the supervision of FIU and FAU faculty and work on leading computing research projects with critical real-world applications, while experiencing international culture and global industry. Such an experience can significantly enhance your competitiveness on the job market. |
"PIRE... provides our students with the kind of
direct international experience and training that will
prepare them for careers in an increasingly competitive
global arena." "PIRE...will enable the next generation of
students participants to become fully engaged as members of
the globally-aware IT workforce."" "We look forward to hosting students researchers
... to foster our existing collaborations and create new
ones." "I was able to develop quite a bit as a person, researcher, and professional." "Being able to learn elements directly related to my project, the likes and dislikes of another culture, and be able to communicate in a different language are all aspects related to the PIRE program for which I will always be grateful." "It helps you build confidence that the degree you hold will enable you to tackle any problem, and, more importantly, it lets you experience the job before committing your life to it." |
